Fabrication Welder

The Welder is responsible for assessing equipment structures, and machinery using appropriate welding techniques. Duties include repairing machinery and other components by welding and filling gaps, maintain equipment that does not compromise safety, and monitoring equipment for appropriate usage and temperature. This career requires a thorough understanding of heavy machinery and previous welding experience.

II.             Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Asses equipment structures, materials, and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methods.
  • Set up components for welding according to specific instructions (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
  • Align components using calipers, rulers, etc. and clamp pieces.
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
  • Trims metal components using heat, fire, and electricity.
  • Repairs machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
  • Uses electricity and torches to produce heat and solder together components made from steel, titanium, copper, and other metals.
  • Monitors equipment for appropriate usage and temperature.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of universal standards and specifications in order to meet building codes and legal requirements.
  • Monitors work environment for hazards and maintains healthy ventilation levels to avoid particle or gas inhalation.
  • Follows safety protocol, including wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

III.           Required Skills / Abilities

  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA, etc.)
  • Mechanical inclination or a thorough understanding of heavy machinery.
  • Experience using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calliperts, etc.)

 

IV.           Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED-equivalent.
  • Previous welding experience.

V.              Other Job Demands

While performing the essential functions of this job, the Welder will be working in an outdoor environment. The employee may be near moving mechanical parts and will be exposed to all weather conditions. The noise level in the environment can be loud and will require ear protection. The employee is required to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. This job also requires frequent bending, kneeling, and standing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working in confined spaces.
