Senior Software Engineer

Location: Sheffield or London or Talbot Green

Full time, permanent

Salary: £60,000 to £80,000

Role overview:

You will be joining an evolving agile team that includes Scrum Masters, Product Managers, Quality Assurance, and fellow Engineers. You will be working in a team that actively encourages openness and respect for one another. You will work alongside your team using transparent processes to inspect, adapt and continuously learn and improve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work within a Scrum Team to deliver agreed functionality fit for release throughout each sprint cycle.
  • Actively participate in scrum events and workshops, including sprint planning and retrospectives.
  • Take ownership of deploying your code to all environments and release it to our customers.
  • Provide support, mentorship, and guidance to other team members.
  • Work with solutions architects, taking an enterprise level architectural approach to create SaaS based services that are used throughout Tes’ products.
  • Work alongside other engineers and tech leads on improving the developer experience and engineering culture.
  • Happy to contribute and share knowledge amongst their own team and Tes Engineering via knowledge sharing meetings.

 

What will you need to succeed?

Essential skills:

  • Programming language expertise in PHP8 using best practices.
  • Great expertise in engineering practice, including deep knowledge of engineering and architectural principles (including clean code, SOLID principles, etc…).
  • Experience working with quality assurance engineers and taking a test-driven approach to development.
  • Hands on experience calling APIs (particularly REST APIs) and working with OpenAPI/Swagger.
  • Working knowledge of both NoSQL and relational database technologies.
  • Self-drive and constantly striving to improve your team, division and peers through coaching and mentoring.
  • Good written and verbal skills, able to translate concepts into easily understood diagrams and visuals for both technical and non-technical people alike.
  • Drive for advocacy of agile delivery methodologies.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience with microservices using technologies like Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Programming language expertise in Java SE 17+ and Spring Boot.
  • A good understanding of CI/CD principles.
  • Experience with feature toggling and A/B testing.
  • Experience in working in the cloud (AWS/GCP)
